Racism and Corporate Manipulation

(updated on 11/2/11)

The very idea of a black President, just doesn't seem to set right with a small segment of the social conservatives and racists groups in American, who are culturally stuck in the 1960's. It is clear to see that their motivations derives from ignorance and racial prejudice. This is a story of a backward, poor white couple, that suffered the indignity of being manipulated, by the rich and powerful and to act against their own interest and well being.

The story begins with such a couple. I have called them Bubba and Alma, but since their names are fictitious, you can just fill in the blank. Many of us know such individuals. Bubba lost his job about a year ago and had a very hard time finding another job. Bubba was well regarded by his peers, and was considered a leader in his community. He had achieved high status, even though he had only completed the 6 th grade. Being raised in a rural settings and a farm hand, this was not that unusual. He was the oldest of six children and helped raised them by getting odd jobs to supplement his income, as a farm hand. Bubba married Alma, whom he had known and loved since childhood. They were kissing cousins. He loved Alma and she loved him. They were devoted to each other, in a way that only a few could understand. They went everywhere together as a couple. Bubba and Alma had 3 children ages 2, 3 and 5. Alma thought Bubba was the Sun rising in the East. He was her ideal man. They lived in the White Oaks trailer park. The trailer park was located in a rural township of South Carolina. Unfortunately for Bubba and family, they had to live on the other side of the tracks with people, who didn't look like them. Consequently, they were extremely offended, because they knew that they deserved a much better life, than those colored folks. It didn't matter that they were, as poor as, the coloreds, because they had something that the colored could never have, and that was their proud pure "White" skin. It meant everything to them. They were willing to die to protect their perceived "White Privilege". Although very poor and on welfare, they were "White" and that meant everything to them. They lived in "glorious Whiteness," and it was truly wonderful. Bubba thought being White and poor was no reason to be ashamed, as long as the Blacks and the Mud people knew that the "Whites" were superior.

Now Bubba descended from a long line of White supremists and had been taught the value of being "White" in America. The other races were inferior, and had to be kept in their place, to prevent them from becoming too uppity. This was the White Man's burden. Bubba always felt like he belonged and was really someone very important, especially, when he attended the White supremists meetings like the Ku Klux Klan. They were notified by word of mouth and by phone, when and where these meetings would be held. The Meetings were usually conducted by the local Grand Dragon. Surprisingly, many large corporations would send speakers and representatives, who would promote their White Supremacist ideology, and to get them worked up, and to recruit them to do protests and carry signs to give the appearance of a truly grass roots "spontaneous" peoples protest, like the Tea Party. Bubba thought that this was great, because he was unemployed and they paid rather well. They were given placards and told to make them angry and anti-government and anti-Obama. The objective was to give the media the impression that their numbers were much larger than they actually were. A few hundred people shouting and screeming and carrying side arms would surely get the attention of the News Media and thereby, pressure the President and members of Congress to bend policy toward the status quo, which of course favored the filthy rich and the Corporations. What Bubba, and the others didn't understand was that they were being manipulated, used to controvert and overturn, the very causes that were designed and meant to improve their very own lives, like health care, jobs, free education and a higher standard of living.

After a Corporate Sponsored Protest, Bubba, Alma and the 3 children were involved in a serious automobile accident, that took the lives of his wife and 3 children. Unfortunately for Bubba, he had no health care insurance, no money or savings, no job and tens of thousands of dollars owed to doctors and hospitals. I guess the Corporate Sponsors forgot or did not include health insurance coverage for the protesters and their families. Bubba is fresh out of luck and bankrupt, and had to return to the farm, as a farm hand, and his future is now very bleak and uncertain. Oh by the way, the Corporate Sponsors were unwilling to pay any of his medical expenses and funeral costs.

President Obama, please do not be influenced by this small racist group, who are tossed to and fro, by every wind of corporate and GOP lies and deceptions. We the people want you to stand and fight for National Health Care and for Jobs and a Social Safety Net for the middle class and the poor n needy, and for a better life and future for America and the world. These so-called "Tea Baggers" are paid minions, and do not reflect or express the true will of "We the People" of the United States. Mr. President, "We the People" are the 99%ers! We want you to ask Congress for enough money and for tax increases on the Rich and Corporations to put America back to work and on top again. Be bold and fearless, "We the People" love it, when you do not back down or give in to the 1%ers. We now know and understand that they want you to fail at any cost, but "We the People" do not share their views. We want you to succeed as our President, Barack Obama. Yeah, we want you to succeed!

Now its racism if we do not support health care? I guess the majority of Americans are racist then, even my Black friends. I will be sure and tell them.

To A Texan:

Sir, do you have a reading disability or something? I did not say that a majority of Americans are racist.

In the first paragraph of the article, I stated," The very idea of a black President, just doesn't seem to set right with a { small segment } of the American people, who are culturally stuck in the 1960's."

Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions! Take your time and try to read and understand what you are reading.. ok?

I'd like to believe I was, once, a very caring person. Truth be known, I loved everyone. I've lived in the South for 21 grueling years. Is it possible that very good people are being terrorized by North American terrorists? I've never felt threatened by a white man; however, on several occasions, black men have tried to play their "Ace" and treat me like crap for no reason whatsoever. A couple of times, I even feared for my life. Upwards of 70% of black people must truly believe that they own all the roadways in America, not to mention the sidewalks and even the widest aisles that WalMart has to offer. Twenty percent of those do it cuz they think they can bully 'good folk' around and the other 50 percent drool on themselves while walking as they cross over into your lane whether walking or driving. My parents led by example; walk down the right side of a hall, drive down the right side of the road, hold doors for people when possible regardless of their age or color. They accomplished a lot but we live in, at best, a "South park" world where no one gives a damn about anything. *Tonight, I had to listen to a 79 year old woman who has to make the choice between eating or paying her $60 copay for her medicine.

*It wouldn't be that way if we had kicked out 3% of the US population when we had a chance -- those, who if offered a job around three years ago wouldn't take someone up on the "offer", anyone up on the offer and now...

...NOW they are creating numerous children with numerous partners and soon... we (30% of the black population and 80% of the white population) will be outnumbered by godless people.

To Tackle This:

Try not to generalize, when it comes to race, ethnicity or religion. It is not a good practice to group everyone into the same fishbowl.

There are good and bad in every group, some are hidden and some are obvious, but if you judge the whole by a few bad actors, then you reduce their humanity and become like the people that you dispise.

We need to understand that America is one nation, made up of people from many other nation, who have come here to seek a better and more fulfilled life for themselves and their families.

Lets stop the hate and focus on the things that we hold in common.

Yep, you tell it like it is, eagelfeather. I have seen it with my own eyes, heard it with my own ears, felt it from my own spirit. That America remains a racist filled country. The "real fools" who talk like them, walk like them, and find pleasure, joy in the harm to others in order to feel inferior because they are indeed small minded, lost souls, brought up to believe that the color of skin is what makes anyone better then another as a moral code, will forever be a filthy thing upon our nation.

Thank you for sharing! I'll pass this on.

Peace

Thank you for a well written story that accurately describes to what is happening to the average white person with limited education.

This is not new. Southern Planters who own most of the slaves, pressed poor whites into gangs of "patrollers" (called "Paddy-Rollers" by the slaves) to patrol the roads at night top preventing slaves from assembling or running away. The patrollers had no vested interest in preventing runaways so the Planters instilled fear in them..telling the poor whites that the blacks would kill them and rape their wives and daughters.

The ruling class has always used racial and class fear to control working class whites whether the preceived enemy is black, Native American, Hispanic or Jewish or whatever. Now it is the fear of the Affordable Healthcare Act - the dreaded "Obamacare" that many whites need, yet they will vote against that "socialist" program!

The irony is that when asked about individual components of the plan, like: insurance with existing conditions or should children be carried until age 26 or discounts for Medicare prescriptions; there is overwhelming approval of "Obamacare" by white Republicans! You are exactly right, fear and ignorance keep many average whites voting against their own best interests election after election.
